Beit Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People

Beit Hatfutsot, the Museum of the Jewish People, is more than a museum. This unique global institution tells the ongoing and extraordinary story of the Jewish people.

Beit Hatfutsot connects Jewish people to their roots and strengthens their personal and collective Jewish identity. Beit Hatfutsot conveys to the world the fascinating narrative of the Jewish people and the essence of the Jewish culture, faith, purpose and deed while presenting the contribution of world Jewry to humanity.

Beit Hatfutsot opened in 1978 thanks to the vision of Nahum Goldmann, president of the World Jewish Congress 1954-1977. In 2005, the Israeli Knesset passed the Beit Hatfutsot Law that defines Beit Hatfutsot as “the National Center for Jewish communities in Israel and around the world”.

9 years ago we launched a program for youth at risk and with special needs. We named it ‘Sea of Friends’. Combining emotional experiences in the open sea, and processing them with cognitive tools, is at the heart of this program. Each meeting integrates three parts: An opening workshop, a nautical activity in the boats, and a processing workshop. We also developed unique programs for people with disabilities: visually impaired, Parkinson’s sufferers, mental illnesses, autistic children, and breast cancer survivors. Hundreds of participants later, it’s time to tell and share. Partly because, yes, we’re proud, but mostly so that you will help us reach more audiences – more  groups of kids and juveniles who could benefit, more people with special needs who can be included.

Hagit Neeman Gorny

Owner at Gitta Bags

16 years ago, when I first became a mother, I got a diaper bag when I purchased a carriage. Only problem? It did not fit my needs as a mom. I was hoping to find a diaper bag that will make my life easier while on the go, and was disappointed to learn my dream diaper bag did not exist. So what’s an industrial designer to do? I just decided to create that very bag myself. Gittabags’ first diaper bag entered the market at 2001 and was welcomed by enthusiastic parents, whom were desperately looking for a diaper bag that combines convenient solutions with a fashionable look. A combination of functionality and luxury, if you will. I’ve been blessed with 4 wonderful children, whom have provided a lot of inspiration and ideas over the years. I’m driven by the challenge to provide better quality solutions and improve the lives of parents everywhere.

mifold

Hi, I’m Jon, the inventor of mifold, The Grab-and-Go Booster Seat.  When my four children were small, we lived in America.  Our children were being driven everywhere by other people as well as ourselves.

Car safety is important to us and we wanted to make sure that the kids always had the correct car seat, but we often found that booster seats were not available; especially when we were carpooling with other families.

So, I thought, if I could make a booster that was really small and really tough, that could easily be taken everywhere, then our children would always be safe, no matter whose car they are in.

And we’ve done it, mifold is mighty small and mighty strong. mifold is the most advanced, compact and portable booster seat in the world.

It’s more than ten times smaller than a regular booster and it’s just as safe. We call it the Grab-and-Go’ Booster seat.

Sarit Shani Hay

Owner at Sarit Shani Hay Store

As an artist and designer I engage in a wide range of fields and combine diverse disciplines. My work is layered, ranging from object making to the creation of spaces and environments. My work is motivated by the profound need to reformulate things.
I create an aesthetic world around me, using design as an excuse. In fact, it is a channel through which I constitute a world for myself. Art is a type of longing, a never-ending attempt to reconstruct and revive, a yearning for an unattainable world. After spending several years abroad (in New York, London, and Africa) and having received a post-graduate diploma from London’s Chelsea College of Art and Design, I returned to Israel and launched a design studio in Tel Aviv. Childhood has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration. My daughter’s birth and the desire to design for her were a type of rebirth for me, in which I found my calling.  I believe that the environment children grow up in is the soil on which their sensibilities develop, and that childhood should be celebrated! Over the years I have expanded my work to other areas of design, from intimate spaces to public projects. The studio specializes in design of pedagogical environments, interior design, custom made furniture for kids and grown ups, alike.

The Jerusalem Biblical Zoo

The Tisch Family Zoological Gardens, also known as the Biblical Zoo, opened in Jerusalem’s Malha neighborhood in 1993, having been located in various locations in Jerusalem since 1941. The establishment of the zoo in its present form was made possible thanks to the generosity of Tisch family of New York, under the auspices of the Jerusalem Foundation. The dedication ceremony took place in the presence of the President of the State of Israel at the time, the late Chaim Herzog.

The Zoo was designed by Miller-Blum & Associates Landscape Architects, and was constructed by the Moriah-Jerusalem Development Corporation. Stretching across almost 100 acres, the Zoo is ranked year after year as one of the top tourist sites in Israel, attracting over 750,000 visitors annually. The Zoo’s scenic location in the Judean hills with its varied animal exhibits, draws people from all threads of Jerusalem’s vibrant social fabric – Jewish, Christian and Muslim; secular and religious: young and old; and tourists and locals. Thus the Zoo has become a bridge between communities. It is one of the few sites in Israel where everyone comes together and feels welcome.

The Zoo is a non-profit organization created by a partnership consisting of the Jerusalem Municipality, the Jerusalem Development Authority and the Jerusalem Foundation. The Zoo’s Board of Directors has distinguished individuals from local government, business and academia; and our Professional International Advisory Committee is comprised of leading nature conservationists from Israel and abroad. The Biblical Zoo receives no governmental or municipal operations subsidies. It is dependent on visitors for operational expenses and on friends in Israel and abroad for special capital projects, wildlife conservation and education programs.
