A leading Israeli environmental activist and academic, founder of the Israel Union for Environmental Defense, the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies and a co-founder of Ecopeace Middle EastThis is My Earththe Israel Forum for Demography, Environment and SocietyAytzim: Ecological Judaism, and the Green Movement political party.

His research focuses on the role of public policy in improving environmental quality.  Although most of my work considers Israel’s environmental challenges, I am also very interested in how to make progress in development and combating desertification in Africa.  Over the years I have considered a broad range of environmental issues: from air and water quality to forestry, open spaces, biodiversity, solid waste and environmental education.  Recently, I completed a book that considers the issue of Israel’s demographic history, the social and environmental effects of the country’s high population density and policy reforms that can facilitate a transition to a sustainable and stable population levels.  A fair amount of experience at the start of my career as a public interest environmental advocate informs my orientation which tends to be highly applied, seeking solutions that will useful for decision makers.

Bialik-Rogozin School

The Bialik-Rogozin is a school located in South Tel Aviv. The school educates 903 students from kindergarten to the 12th grade and its student population includes a wide range of demographic groups; poor third-generation Israeli born families, work immigrants, and new immigrants. Almost all families have a low socio-economic status and live predominantly in the southern neighborhoods of Tel Aviv.

Linda Streit

Founder & Educator

Linda Streit was born in London and immigrated to Israel in 1978. She recently retired after over 35 years of being a Drama Studies lecturer at the Department of English and American Literature at Tel Aviv University since 1985 and aims to make the rich world of international theatre come alive for Israeli youngsters. Linda is the co-founder of the Daniel Rowing Centre, a world-class rowing and nautical studies centre in Tel Aviv, built in memory of her son, Daniel, who died in a car crash in 1993. Streit is also a governor of Tel Aviv University since 1990, a member of the International Board of Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and of the Audit and Executive Committees of the Cameri Theatre in Tel Aviv, the London Society for Theatre Research, the International Federation for Theatre Research, and the Israel national Golf team.
