Acollective

A riot in a petting zoo, awkwardly captivating and viciously enticing – that is the mesmerizing musical experience of Acollective. With a seemingly infinite arsenal of genres and musical instruments, this energetic Tel-Aviv seven piece band have sparked a distinct freewheeling feeling to their sound – mixing up boogied-folk, electronic-jazz, psychedelia and a Middle Eastern-bluesy twang into a anarchical spree of drunken honest joy. One of Israel’s most extraordinary indie successes, Acollective have been playing monthly shows to 1000+ capacity sold out venues, whilst headlining some of Israel’s leading music festivals. The band tours Europe regularly and have quickly earned a dedicated grassroots following and a reputation for show-stopping concerts. Their unforgettable energetic stage presence has gained critical acclaim and extensive airplay in local and national radio and TV stations, and the band were given enthusiastic mentions in NME, Fly Magazine, Filter, TimeOut, Jerusalem Post and Haaretz, among others. Acollective have also supported Jose Gonzalez, Okkervil River and Woven Hand, and performed at Liverpool Sound City, TIME and In the City (Manchester). Acollective evolved in the backstreets of Tel-Aviv – originally intended as an exclusive club for cathartic escapism (with no aspirations of stardom), the band’s early shows became a weekly cult gathering in Tel-Aviv, which soon translated to full houses around the country – all this without any label or sponsorship. In April 2009, the band impulsively decided to move to London, where all seven members lived in a two bedroom house – a manic communal fort dedicated to preserving the bubble of the band’s creative process. Whilst living in England, the band toured extensively, sprinting, instruments in hand, from one gig to the next on public transport, laying down the foundations both musically and lyrically for their debut album, ‘Onwards.’ The self-released ‘Onwards’ was recorded and produced by Chris Shaw (Bob Dylan, Super Furry Animals, Guillemots and many more), at the band’s hometown studio in downtown Tel-Aviv. With dozens of instruments flying about in a complex setting, the studio structure enabled the band to record the entire album in live takes, from ukulele parts in the stairwell to saxophone in the shower room. The band’s late night ideas soon became defining moments for the album ensuring the raucous live energy and creativity from stage shows translated to the album recording. Released in Israel in March 2011, Onwards received widespread critical acclaim and early nominations for “Album of the Year” from leading national publications. Armed with a new and promising album, Acollective have started their march to take over the European continent.

Idan Rabinovici

Musician at Acollective

Idan Rabinovici was born in Tel-Aviv, Israel and spent his childhood moving between various cities and countries. A classically trained pianist, he left the world of music and Israel at the age of 15 to study in the UK and US, simultaneously soaking up the influences of the many different instruments and musical styles he experienced on the way. In March 2008 Idan returned to Israel and released his debut album, ‘Bedroom Folk’. The album was written during his travels and recorded in Israel by Idan and a group of fellow musicians and childhood friends. ‘Bedroom Folk’, independently produced and funded, was critically acclaimed in Israel and received widespread radio play on both national and local stations in the country. Idan toured extensively, playing both acoustic and full band shows (sometimes featuring 9 musicians) and building a loyal fan base that grows bigger with each concert. All this was achieved without any form of PR – just the music speaking for itself. Having returned to the UK in Autumn 2008, Idan discovered he had been handpicked to open at Jose Gonzalez’s forthcoming show in Tel Aviv. As well as working hard to promote, ‘Bedroom Folk’, Idan has recently returned to the studio, laying down tracks for his as yet untitled second album. Featuring many of the musicians who made up his touring band, this new material represents the huge strides taken by Rabinovici since his first recording sessions.

Ivri Lider

Recording Artist at Helicon Records

Ivri Lider is one of the most successful Israeli musicians of his generation, appreciated by fellow artists, critics, and the public alike. Through his lyrics, Ivri brings to life the thoughts and day-to-day encounters of a new generation of Israelis – a generation he calls “The New People.” It comes as no surprise to those who follow the Israeli music scene that the combination of Ivri’s songwriting and his unique voice have made him not only a star, but one of the most adored and respected people in Israel. Born on a Kibbutz in 1974, Ivri took his first musical steps while still in high school. At the age of 17, he started a group called Everyone Does It Like This, whose gigs included a performance at the legendary Roxanne club in Tel Aviv. As he continued to refine musical skills throughout his teen years, renowned Israeli modern dance choreographer Anat Danieli commissioned Lider to compose the music for two of her pieces, “Kisses” and “October.” Shortly thereafter, he was tapped by Ohad Naharrin to compose the music for “Kaamos,” which Naharrin choreographed for the famous Dutch dance company, NDT. And at the young age of 21, Israel’s leading dance company, Bat Sheva, chose Lider to compose the entire score for Z/NA, making him the youngest person to compose an entire evening of music in the company’s history. In September 2011, Ivri has released “20 Seconds”, the new singel by “The Young Professionals.” Nowadays Ivri is concentrated in the making of his new album in hebrew. In the beginning of 2012, TYP were signed by Polydor Records, the french extension of the international music company, Universal. Jeremy Hulsh

Founder at Oleh! Records

Jeremy Hulsh is a huge fan and proponent for the Israeli music culture scene. Before establishing Israel’s first and only music export office, Oleh! Records R.A., he found myself developing a palate for culture and music around the same time he was applying for my learner’s permit. After starting an independent production company in high school, he began promoting shows for 500+ kids in my neighborhood on weekends (friends basements, backyards, and community centers). He’s a musician and producer (less and less these days), but he’s recorded and produced music with members of The Smashing Pumpkins and collaborated and worked A&R with producers who have achieved triple gold and platinum sales (Fall Out Boy, Plain White T’s, Matisyahu, Shyne etc). I also spent some time working in nationally syndicated radio as my first break in the music business (Tribune Broadcasting Company) and got the chance to cut my teeth in the live business soon after that marketing and promoting shows with House of Blues Promotions (Clear Channel Concerts). When he was a sophomore in college- Sony Music (US) tapped him to work in developing artists in the Southwest; he helped break plenty of new bands but also worked with his hero’s including Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Korn, Incubus, John Mayer and many others. After 3 years with Sony, Columbia Records offered him a job as a regional retail marketing executive, overseeing 18 states in the midwest; and continuing to develop and roll out major campaigns for the label. In recent years, he’s orchestrated commercial deals resulting in over 5 million USD investment in the Israeli music and film industry, including major motion pictures, international live music productions and cultural events-all revenues focus return on investment to the local Israeli creative sector. He completed his BSBA in International Business/Conflict Management from the University of Denver in 2001 and more recently, an MA in Security Studies at the University of Tel Aviv in 2009. He lives in the heart of Tel-Aviv with his beautiful and awesome wife Vera …about 4 minute walk from the Mediterranean Sea; his other greatest love, Oleh! Records currently operates a modest office with passionate staff and volunteers in and around the city as they have actually grown an international network in major markets around the world- New York, Chicago, Los Angeles – Rio De Janeiro, Buenos Aires – London, Paris, Stockholm,Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest- Sydney, Tokyo, and Singapore. Social Venture/Music Start Up/Oleh! Records- Israel’s Music Export. Jeremy is the architect/founder and executive director of Oleh! Record; he is described by his peers as an atypical social entrepreneur. After working for major record labels (Sony Music/Columbia Records) in the US for years, Jeremy moved to Israel to pursue more meaningful goals. In no time at all Jeremy was developing numerous projects in the field of Israel advocacy, diplomacy and culture/entertainment. Oleh! Records is the personification of his passions for Israel and professional experience. It is his personal philosophy that has generated the exponential success of Oleh! early on; low investment – high return models, educating and inspiring the community as well as passionate fans to build the organization and create sustainable platforms for growth.
